 Black Bull Bone Marrow Challenge

One of the best known pubs in the Tyne Valley has raised £20,000 after devoting an entire weekend to raising money for Newcastle RVI’s bone marrow transplant unit.

On Tuesday [Nov 30] local resident Oliver Miller will be presented with a brand new Renault Clio, the first prize in a £5 a ticket raffle, paid for by the pub and Wylam’s Renault  garage.

The Black Bull in Wylam held the events on the weekend of November 26-Nov 27th after regular Gerry Woods was diagnosed with leukaemia. He will undergo a bone marrow transplant in January. The weekend included a black tie charity night and auction, as well as a sponsored eight mile Fun Walk on the Saturday and a Charity Pool competition.

Gerry Woods says: “I became aware of the superb research which is taking place at the RVI when I was diagnosed with leukaemia. The Black Bull is my local and I hoped they would organise a charity night but it has turned into a major event involving hundreds of people.

“The target was to raise £10,000 and we’ve more than doubled that which is absolutely tremendous.”
